“On a hot sunny day, when the sea is still and sun rays dance on the water, the Solent could be a far-flung holiday destination. Imagine a world where you can get on the water on a whim without needing to own a boat. Enter: the boat club concept.”
We were so happy to be featured in this months Hampshire Life Magazine. A fantastic article discussing the rise in popularity of the Boat Club approach to boating and how sharing a well-maintained fleet can help to create a healthier impact on the environment.
“Whole communities of water-loving folk are subscribing to boat clubs along the Hampshire coastline. Both seasoned sailors and fresh-faced skippers are signing up, reaping the benefits of boating without the ties of ownership. Rather than tending to boat maintenance, they’re choosing from a fleet of shared boats, and getting out on the water” quoted the popular lifestyle magazine.
But it’s not just ease of access and hassle-free boating that the article focused on, with sustainability and environment also playing a key role.
“The climate crisis has changed how many people think about recreational travel. With a return flight to Malaga creating 313.3kg of CO2 per passenger, the environmental impact plays on holidaymakers’ minds” said the magazine.
‘The more people that take up subscription boating, the less demand there will be on manufacturing new boats which can only mean positive things for our environment’. ‘By having fewer boats on the water that are well-maintained and efficiently used, you create a healthier impact on the environment’ quoted club manager Steve Rodwell.
It seems journalist Katie Dancey-Downs has nailed the boat club concept in one with her parting words…
“Joining a boat club doesn’t just fulfill ambitions, it also helps people find new communities and engage with the world around them. Clubs are bringing down barriers to boating, and they’re also offering new ways to connect – with people and the planet. Boat clubs mean new adventures.”
Thank you Katie and the team at Hampshire Life Magazine for this incredible write-up.
