We believe the best way to learn is in a relaxed environment where you can ask any questions or practice any manoeuvre until you are 100% happy with it. This means for a shore-based course we will have a maximum of 6 – 8 people per instructor. For our practical courses we will adapt the tuition around you and your personal needs. We can even train you on your own boat.
Shorebased training is run from our fully equipped training room on site and practical courses use an up to date training RIB with colour GPS and depth sounder, hydraulic steering, electric start engine and secure seating for all onboard.
We also offer ladies only courses and practical group courses for up to 9 people between various craft giving you that all important experience in different boats.
RYA Intermediate Powerboat (2 days)
The RYA Intermediate Powerboat course is the next step along your powerboat journey. This course is developed to extend your knowledge and understanding of how to manoeuvre a powerboat in varying tides and conditions. The course also focuses on more in-depth pilotage and passage planning for those longer coastal trips whilst using charts and onboard chat plotters. At the end of this course, you will be confident to plan, prepare and take a longer coastal passage.

If you already own your own boat or have just bought one and want to learn and develop your skills then why not book one of our highly experienced instructors. Boat club members are welcome to use Boat Club Trafalgar boats.

As a new owner, by taking one of our qualified and experienced skippers for a few days at the start of your ownership we can help take the pressure off you and make your whole experience that much more enjoyable. So, if you want some intense instruction on a specific topic or just want to have a little moral support whilst you build your confidence then our instructors will be totally flexible to your needs.
Our staff are RYA Advanced powerboat skippers and instructors with vast experience and knowledge on a range of boats.
Prices:
VHF (SRC) Marine Radio – a one day course that covers everything you need to know about a VHF radio. This course is a legal requirement for anyone fitting a VHF radio to their boat.
RYA First Aid Course – a one day course that gives a great understanding of emergency first aid. Scenarios will be based on the situation afloat and ashore.
RYA Day Skipper Theory Course (5 days)
This shore-based gives you the knowledge to skipper and navigate in unfamiliar waters by day. You will also be introduced to lights for basic night-time driving. This course will cover Chart work, Tidal systems, seamanship, meteorology and collision regulations and much more. The course has several small exams throughout the week. This course is highly recommended for those looking to carry out RYA Intermediate Powerboat and Advanced Powerboat courses.
